THIRD MEETING REPORT
During the 3rd meeting of this IAVCEI Commission (January 2006, Salcedo, Ecuador) we have focused on the field techniques for the determination of the maximum clast (lithic and juvenile clasts) in order to increase consistency in estimation of eruptive parameters based on these measurements (e.g. column height and wind speed). During the first day of the meeting the participants (Appendix A) shared experiences and limits of the various techniques used for the determination of the maximum clast (summarized in the section ”Preliminary discussion”). During the second day the 32 participants (divided into 5 groups) worked directly on two outcrops to assess the variability of measurements due to the application of different techniques and to the individual measurements. Data were partially processed during the meeting and discussed with the whole group. The report was finalized as a results of the 4th meeting and integrates all comments received from the Commission. Here is the final report: 1) Report*; Data: 1) Outcrop1-01-areas; 2) Outcrop1-05-areas; 3) Outcrop1-A-volume-time; 4) Outcrop1-B-volume-time; 5) Outcrop1-C-volume-time; 6) Outcrop1-D-volume-time; 7) Outcrop1-E-volume-time; 8) Outcrop1-volume-sections; 10) Outcrop2-tot. Templates: 1) Maximumclast-template-FIELD; 2) Maximumclast-template-LAB. Summary: 1) Flow-chart.
